Zest and juice the oranges. You should get about 1 cup. Set aside.
Combine the water and sugar in a saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.
Add the orange zest and ginger. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. At 10 minutes, add the orange juice.
Remove from the heat and remove the ginger. Once cooled, cover, and store in refrigerator for at least 12 hours and up to 2 weeks.
To make a serving, combine the syrup, citric acid, and ice in a cup. Pour in the club soda and stir.
