Grand Theft Auto V comes out this week! I couldn’t resist recreating another recipe from the series. I’m actually very interested in this title, more so than I was with GTA IV. I think a lot of it has to do with the trailers they have been showing. The characters seem extremely fascinating and each pretty unique. I really like that they have allowed you to explore the world of Los Santos through the eyes of three very different characters. The most ridiculous looking of the bunch, not surprisingly, has to be Trevor Phillips. At first he seems out of place but in these kinds of scenarios I think a “wild card” is always needed to lighten up the mood before cutting the brakes on the van and rolling out the door. Based on the reviews I’m seeing the game seems to be doing well but on the more “evil” side than any other GTA game before. I’m very excited for the title because as time has passed Rockstar has gotten much better at story telling (I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Red Dead Redemption). I cannot wait to dive into this game.
This week we will be exploring a treat from a classic fast food joint in the Grand Theft Auto universe, the fowl wrap from Cluckin’ Bell. For the longest time I’ve want to figure out how to make a good slow cooked chicken recipe. After a bit of testing, I think I’ve found a recipe I’m quite proud of. This is a recipe I recommend saving for the weekend. The cooking time in the oven is about 4-5 hours. Personally, I don’t like the idea of leaving my oven on while I’m not at home, but that is just me. The actual level of work required for making the recipe is very minimal and the long cook time is 100% worth it. The chicken was so juicy and tender that writing this recipe made me hungry for some of the leftovers I still have waiting for me in the fridge!
Required Equipment: Bowl, Cutting Board, Knife, Dutch Oven
Servings: 4-5 wraps worth
Ingredients:
– 2 lbs skinless, boneless chicken thighs
– 1 onion
– 5 cloves garlic
– 3 tbsp chili powder
– 1 tbsp coriander
– 1 tbsp cumin
– 24-30 ounces tomato sauce
– salt
– pepper
– lime juice
– ¼ cup cilantro
– vegetable oil
Pre-heat the oven to 275°F. Begin by chopping the onion and garlic and placing it to the side until you are ready to begin cooking. In a small bowl combine the chili powder, coriander, and cumin.
Take the chicken and coat it with the mixed spices. You want to make sure each piece is well rubbed.
Place a dutch oven over medium high heat with vegetable oil. Add the onions and garlic and cook until softened (about 3-5 minutes). Sprinkle salt, pepper, cumin, coriander, and chili powder on and mix.
Add the tomato sauce and chicken. Make sure to cover the chicken with the tomato sauce, I ended up using 30 ounces of tomato sauce. Cover and place in the oven for 4-5 hours.
After slow cooking, transfer the chicken to a bowl. The chicken should fall apart and easily shred.
Combine with the cilantro and it is ready to serve in a burrito or anything else your heart desires!
