For the past few months, I have been enthralled by the Overwatch League. I have enjoyed watching all the games, cheering for several of the teams, and even going out to meet the Houston Outlaws when they visited Houston last month. I’ve wanted to start doing some kind of food based thing for the league but I wasn’t sure how to approach it. That is until last week when I saw a wonderful tweet from Jewel with a sketch of popsicles based on each of the Overwatch League teams. Her post inspired me to start working on a few recipes. Thanks to her post, I will be starting up a bonus series of recipes where I will create something based on each of the teams. I am hoping to do these on a weekly basis if time allows. Most of the recipes will be easy items inspired by the teams in some way. If you like the concept of these Overwatch League posts, please let me know and which teams you would like to see.
The first set of popsicles will be inspired by the Seoul Dynasty. When the league started up, I honestly picked teams to cheer for based on their team colors and Seoul Dynasty was one of those teams. After watching several games, I was impressed with the support duo Tobi and Ryujehong. The two of them work so well together and I love their coordination. These two inspired me to become even better at supports and I appreciate that I can watch them play throughout the rest of this season. The team has had a handful of hiccups but I still really do enjoy watching their weekly matches.
These popsicles are peanut butter, banana with a drizzling of dark and white chocolate and makes a total of 5 popsicles. The overall recipe is very easy and can be prepped the day before a match. A blender and freezer will do most of the work for these popsicles. Feel free to use any popsicle mold you would like for these. I went with a pretty standard mold from Zoku that I’ve found works extremely well.
Ingredients:
Popsicle
2 bananas
¾ cup peanut butter
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
10 drops yellow food dye*
½ drop blue food dye*
1 drop brown food dye*
Dark Chocolate
½ cup dark chocolate chips
1 tbsp coconut oil
White Chocolate
½ cup white chocolate chips
1 tbsp coconut oil
*Food dye is optional. I used the dye to match the Seoul Dynasty’s colors as closely as possible. Make sure to introduce the food coloring slowly because your totals might be slightly different from mine.
In a blender, blend the bananas until smooth. Add the peanut butter, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until completely combined and smooth. If you are using food dye, add it and mix again.
Transfer the mixture into your popsicle mold. If the mixture seems to be a little gritty or separated, use a skewer stick and stir in the mold. Cover and place in the freezer overnight (at least 12 hours).
The next day, place the chocolates in two bowls and add the coconut oil. Place each in the microwave and heat up until it melts. Make sure to stir everything together. Set aside and allow to slightly cool.
Set a plate with parchment paper on the side. Remove the popsicles from their mold. Take the popsicles and drizzle a portion of the white chocolate and dark chocolate on them. The chocolate should solidify pretty quickly. Once set, place on the plate with parchment paper. Enjoy immediately or wrap each popsicle in plastic to store in the freezer to enjoy later.
