Over the past few months, there has been a lot of rumbling about the multiplayer version of Stardew Valley. Multiplayer is the only way I could convince my husband to try playing a farm simulator game. This style of game has been one of my favorites to play when I want to relax and just unwind. I really enjoy going through the process of developing a farm from the ground up. I’ve started a few random games up with the different farm layouts. I’ve recently started a game in the forest focused map and have been enjoying the very green land and all the trees. I think when my husband and I try the multiplayer version, I might start us on a monster themed farm. I know when we play I will probably be completely focused on managing the farm and he will be adventuring around the cave.
One of my favorite fruits to snack on are blackberries. The bitterness from these are just perfection. When I saw that blackberries were a foragable fruit in the game I was excited to figure out what cooking recipes would be available. Cobblers are, in my mind, the lazy person’s pie. You don’t have to make a full crust and the filling requires very minimal work. This recipe will take you about 20 minutes of work for a very delicious dessert. It pairs extremely well with vanilla ice cream. After you bake it, the crumble can be cooled and refrigerated. When you are going to serve it, make sure to heat it up slightly because the crumble is best served warm.
Ingredients:
Filling
4 cups (1000 g) blackberry
1 tbsp (2 g) lemon zest
2 tbsp (35 g) lemon juice
½ cup (125 g) sugar
½ cup (150 g) honey
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp (2 g) salt
2 tbsp (25 g) cornstarch
Crumble
1 cup (165 g) all-purpose flour
¼ cup (60 g) sugar
1 tsp (2.5 g) cardamom
1 tsp (2.5 g) ground cinnamon
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
6 tbsp butter, cubed and cold
1/3 cup milk
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Combine all the filling ingredients into a medium bowl and let sit for 10 minutes. Transfer into a deep oval shaped baking dish and press down. Avoid putting the liquid in, you don’t want the crumble to be overly liquidy.
Combine the flour, sugar, cardamom, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt in another medium bowl. Add the cubed butter. Using your hands, combine the butter with the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse meal. Add the milk and mix until combined.
Cover the filling with the crumble. Try to set it up in angled lines to match the image in-game. Place in the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown.
