Every time I look at the food from Final Fantasy XV, I drool. Square Enix did an amazing job of creating in-game items that look as delicious as the real world equivalent. The addition of cooking as a system really enhanced the believability of this group of boys traveling around the world. Sure, the group could have just camped out and restored everything with sleep. Instead, they included recipe prep and meal time which really highlights each members personality. Food is really important to Ignis and the recipes he produces really shows this. He is the main caretaker of the group and these little cutscenes when they go camping really highlights this.
The recipes in the game can range from very easy to several hours of complex work. This week, we are taking a dive into one of the easier recipes. Every so often I like to make a meal that is both simple and delicious. The multi-meat sandwich is one such recipe. This sandwich is stuffed with a lot of meat and delicious roasted eggplant. I ate one of these and was extremely full. The hardest part of this meal is roasting the eggplant and the amount of work needed by the chef is pretty minimal.
Ingredients:
2 slices multigrain bread, lightly toasted
1 slice of romaine lettuce
1 tomato, sliced
1 avocado, sliced
3 slices turkey breast
3 slices ham
Roast Eggplant
1 eggplant, sliced
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
salt
2 tsp pepper
Sauce
2 tbsp mayo
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp oregano
Salt the pieces of eggplant, place on a wire rake, and let rest for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and pepper.
Prepare a baking sheet with nonstick spray. Pat the eggplant with a paper towel and transfer to the baking sheet. Brush both sides of the eggplant slices with the olive oil mixture. Roast the eggplant for 10 minutes. Flip and roast for another 10 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool slightly.
Combine all the ingredients for the sauce. Take the two slices of multigrain bread and smear each with a portion of the sauce. On one of the slices, add the sliced avocado.
Layer the meats on top of the avocado. Add the roasted eggplant and the sliced tomatoes.
Top with the romaine lettuce and the other multigrain slice.
