Stardew Valley recently released its multiplayer patch and I have been really enjoying it. I have been playing this latest play through with my husband, Jeff, and good friend, Harry. Having three people working the fields and exploring the caves means you can get a whole lot done in a shorter period of time. This was Jeff’s first time playing the game and he found the most fun rushing through the caves and trashing all the monsters he could find. Now he won’t stop following me with a skull mask, holding a bomb above his head in triumph. It wasn’t until this play through that I finally completed the community center. This time around I’ve had the chance to really set up a strong farming system. I currently have several bottles of starfruit wine aging in casks. In one more season, the farm is going to have so much money!
For the month of August, my fellow Fandom Foodies and I are celebrating Farming Feast where we are cooking things from farming related media. This give me an excuse to create more recipes from Stardew Valley. There are so many delicious recipes that you can make. Today we are taking a look at the simple and delicious rice pudding. The most important step happens after the mixture comes to a boil. You want to make sure to cover and then reduce the heat so that simmers. If it is too hot, the liquid will evaporate too quickly and then the rice won’t cook completely.
Ingredients:
½ cup white rice
2 cups whole milk
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp sugar
1 cinnamon stick
½ vanilla bean, split in half and scrapped
1 strip of orange peel
2 strips of lime peel
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp honey
Combine the rice, milk, cinnamon, vanilla bean (pod and seeds), salt, sugar, orange peel, and lime peel in a saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil. Once it begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and cover.
Simmer for 30 minutes, until the rice is cooked and most of the liquid is evaporated. Make sure to stir frequently during the cooking time so the rice doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
Remove the rice from the heat. Remove the cinnamon stick, vanilla bean pod, orange peel, and lime peel. Stir in the butter and honey. Serve hot or refrigerate and serve cold – both are delicious options.
