This year was the first year Jeff and I attempted to get BlizzCon tickets. Since tickets can be purchased in sets of four, we had two other friends join us. Getting the tickets was a little tricky because three of us were out of town on the first round of sales. On the second day, Jeff was able to get in and pick us up four tickets. We were set and I was very excited to be going to my first BlizzCon ever.
During the opening ceremonies, my expectations for announcements were decently low. I did not think any of my favorite Blizzard franchises would have a major update.I was proven extremely wrong when the Blizzard Classic team came on stage. The opening animation kicked in and I was ready to pop up out of my seat in joy. Warcraft 3 is a game I play at least a few times a year. Primarily, I dive into a handful of custom games with several friends and have a grand time. This was one of the few demos Jeff and I stood in line for. The graphics ran smoothly and it was just gorgeous. After playing the demo, we were also given a neat pair of little posters that are just beautiful. I have framed them and they are ready to be hung. I really love these posters!
Most of my time was spent at the Overwatch Arena. I went to BlizzCon with the mindset of watching a lot of the Overwatch World Cup. Being at a live esports event makes me very excited for the future of multiple cities having esport arenas. The energy in the audience made for a very entertaining time and got me much more pumped about each of the games. I was very disappointed during the first game when Team USA was knocked out but Team UK played very well. We watched the rest of the matches and I found myself cheering on China, kind of the underdogs of the tournament. When they made it to the end I was hopeful that they would put up a decent fight against South Korea. Unfortunately, the last match may have been one of the more boring ones of the weekend. South Korea walked all over China and won the World Cup. Even though the game didn’t go the way I had hoped, I really had a great time watching them live. After this, I’ve decided to make sure I make it out to the Overwatch League at least once this year.
One of the most surprising things to be announced at BlizzCon was the official Lucio-Oh’s cereal. After the commercial finished playing, Jeff Kaplan said that people at BlizzCon would be able to have a sample of the cereal. I expected it to just be a small box to enjoy but instead was surprised to see them handing out full boxes of cereal.
This past weekend I finally cracked open my box of Lucio-Oh’s and give this cereal a fair taste test. I will start with the fact that I haven’t really had cereal in the house for the past few years. It isn’t something I eat for breakfast much anymore because I try to limit some of my sugar intake. Also, making your own cereal from scratch isn’t easy – I’ve made my own version of Lucio-Oh’s and it was a lot of work over several days. The official Lucio-Oh’s cereal is being produced by Kellogg’s and will be on grocery store shelves in December.
The first thing I did was try the cereal dry. It had a wonderful vanilla flavor throughout the pieces. I’ve found myself from time to time grabbing a handful. Next test was in a bowl with some milk. I think here is where the cereal fails a little bit. The milk seemed to mute the vanilla flavor and made the cereal somewhat boring. I thought the overall flavor was similar to a bowl of toned down Lucky Charms minus the marshmallows. Jeff said it really reminded him of Apple Jacks. I didn’t really eat a lot of Apple Jacks so I can’t confirm that. Overall, the flavor is nice but gets a bit lost in a bowl with milk. I do recommend checking them out and maybe just munching on them without the milk.
I really enjoyed my time at BlizzCon. It was one of the friendliest and least jammed packed convention I’ve been too. I never felt like I was waiting in line too long and was easily able to get into everything I wanted. Sure, a lot of my time was spent in a handful of spots but it was all great. I was also able to meet up with a few people I haven’t seen in a while or met before in person. It was very nice to have those interactions with those people and the setting was perfect. I know at some point I will be going to another BlizzCon because this first one was just an amazing experience.

It was so wonderful to see you again, Vicka! I only wish I would have had more time to hang out and chat. Please do let me know if you make it out to another; I’d be happy to get you and Jeff in on a tour the next time around. 🙂

Ooooh that would be amazing. I will poke at you for sure the next time. 😀

It sounds like you had a great time! BlizzCon is on my convention “to-go” list, hopefully we’ll make it there one day. This year’s announcements weren’t really up my alley, but it was a lot of fun to see people’s excitement for the remasters and WoW Classic.
Can’t wait to pick up a box of Lucio-Oh’s to add to my merch collection!

I loved it and highly recommend doing it at least once. The announcements were on the lighter side but the overall event was just extremely enjoyable!
Hope you enjoy the Lucio-Oh’s! 😀
