Before Fallout 76 launched, I began a new playthrough of Fallout 4. During this playthrough, I decided it was time to travel with a different companion other than Dogmeat. Nick Valentine was always a character I wanted to learn more about so this time around he joined me for the first part of my adventure. Having Nick around allowed me to gain access to computers because of his hacking skills. I also got to learn a bit about early models of synths. Most importantly, I learned about the original Nick Valentine, a police detective from Chicago. I really enjoyed traveling around and finding all the different holotapes to piece together Nick’s story. It was nice to get to know him a bit more and complete his main quest. I will probably take a look at a few other companions to see where their story takes me.
The Nuka World DLC for Fallout 4 adds a ton of different flavors to the Nuka-Cola lineup. Before the Great War, the Nuka-Cola Corporation released Nuka-Cola Orange along the East Coast and it was a huge success. I’ve noticed homemade sodas that use fruit as their primary flavor tend to be much lighter than the commercially produced version. As someone who doesn’t drink much soda, I prefer this over storebrand orange soda and find this easier to drink. If you want the soda to have a bit more of a punch, add a few additional tablespoons of the syrup and extra citric acid. Play with the numbers and find your perfect Nuka-Cola Orange.
Ingredients:
Orange Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 large oranges
1-inch piece of ginger, sliced
Per Serving
10 tbsp orange syrup
¼ – ½ tsp citric acid
ice
1 ¼ cup club soda
1 drop orange food dye, optional
Zest and juice the oranges. You should get about 1 cup. Set aside.
Combine the water and sugar in a saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.
Add the orange zest and ginger. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. At 10 minutes, add the orange juice.
Remove from the heat and remove the ginger. Once cooled, cover, and store in refrigerator for at least 12 hours and up to 2 weeks.
To make a serving, combine the syrup, citric acid, orange food dye (if using), and ice in a cup. Pour in the club soda and stir.
