It has been a while since I’ve dipped back into Fallout 76, but I think I’m going to give it a little bit more time before jumping back to the Wasteland. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the improvements that Bethesda has put towards the game and I know a few people that still enjoy it, so I am a bit curious. The part of the game that I always enjoyed was the freedom to do a variety of activities, looting dilapidated museum gift shops and stumbling into weird cult basements. I’m not very excited about every mode and feature they’ve released or announced, but enough will come out where I’ll get a craving to crawl back out to the fallout.
When I played Fallout 76 on the regular, my go to recipe to make was the corn soup. Each time I logged into the game, I would start at my base and grab the newly grown corn. From there I would go to my cooking station and make enough corn soup for the group. I had piles and piles of this soup in my pockets! I probably still have 30 still on my account. Maybe they spoiled? I’m not sure how time works since I’ve not played in months. I’ve actually had this recipe sitting in my backlog for a while now and with all the recent updates to the game I figured it was about time I put it up. This is a pretty easy recipe and pretty close to how you would make it in game. Get a pot, put things in to cook, and wait for the magic to happen.
Ingredients:
canola oil
½ onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, diced
2 celery rib, diced
1 orange bell pepper
4 cups vegetable broth
1 russet potato, peeled and chopped
1 sweet potato, peeled and chopped
4 cups corn
2 tsp coriander
1 tsp chili powder
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp cumin
salt
pepper
1 cup coconut milk
Garnish
scallions
cilantro
Heat a large pot with a tablespoon of canola oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic, celery, and bell pepper and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the vegetable broth and potatoes. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes. Add the corn, coriander, chili powder, oregano, and cumin. Cook until the corn and potatoes have softened.
Turn off the heat and use an immersion blender or a stand blender to mix until smooth. Turn the heat back on to medium and add the coconut milk. Cook until heated. Flavor with salt and pepper to your liking. Serve with sliced scallions and cilantro.
