I don’t think I could ever see myself playing a game like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but I had fun watching my husband play through the entire game. Encountering a new boss and finding his own way to take it down is one of his favorite parts of the game, so I made sure not to spoil anything. There were a few times where he didn’t know something pretty critical to make his shinobi life a lot easier, but it made him that much happier when he figured it out himself and triumphed in the end. But I get to enjoy that triumph vicariously, enjoying myself on the couch without the stress!
One of the items you can obtain in the game is called Monkey Booze. This drink is made from fruit that monkeys have hidden in tree hollows. The monkeys would forget the location and the fruits would begin to ferment and eventually turn into an extremely strong alcohol. When coming up with a recipe for this, I didn’t want the drink to be too strong that no everyone could enjoy it. I started off with an idea similar to a sangria, combining fruit with alcohol. Rather than using wine, I decide to keep it fruity and use a lambic beer and then I combined it with a bit of sake. I also wanted to make sure to use persimmon in the recipe because it is one of the fruits mentioned in the game. This drink should be enjoyed the day it is made, otherwise the lambic will become a bit flat.
Ingredients:
1 orange, sliced
1 persimmon, sliced
1 peach, sliced
2 limes, sliced
10 cherries, pitted and cut in half
1 cup sake
1 355 ml bottle raspberry lambic
1 355 ml bottle peach lambic
Place the fruit in a large pitcher. Add the sake and raspberry lambic. Stir until well combined. Taste and adjust the sugar levels based on your palate. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and then serve.
