The Outer Worlds has been such a wonderful game to play. I’ve recently made it to Monarch, so I’m about midway through the game. I’ve been really enjoying the storytelling and many of the characters I get to interact with. Parvati has to be one of the best characters I’ve interacted with in a game this whole year. Her story has been so wholesome and I’ve had her in my party the entire time. She is such a refreshing character to turn to in a universe surrounded by corporate control and propaganda. Another thing I really like in the game is how unique each of the planets feel. The hopping around to different locations really allows the game to have a slightly different feel with each place you visit. I really much prefer this compared to the crazy open world games where the same look is just repeated for hundreds of miles.
When this game was announced, I was extremely excited to jump in and play. Shortly afterwards, I completely forgot the game was coming out this year. It wasn’t until I saw a tweet about Deep Fried Cysty-Bits that reminded me that the game was coming out. Of course, a game like this was going to have a TON of ridiculous food items in it. I immediately jumped into the game and started researching all of the food options. There are so many things from the consumables you can pick up to food mentioned in casual conversation. We are going to start with one of the first ones you encounter, delicious Spacer’s Choice Saltuna. The game has some alternate varieties of Spacer’s Choice Saltuna, but this is the tried and true original recipe. The main ingredients listed in the description is saltuna, herbs, oil, and sodium. I went ahead and made an herbed olive oil that is our main source of flavor. The next big factor was figuring out what saltuna was. After seeing images of the creature, I decided it was a hybrid of salmon and tuna. I was a little concerned that the two fish would compete with each other but they actually work really well together.

¼ cup olive oil
3 sprigs of thyme, stems removed
1 sprig of rosemary, stem removed and leaves chopped
1 sprig of dill, stem removed
2 tsp coriander
½ lb salmon
½ lb tuna
salt
pepper
1 tbsp lemon juice
Place the olive oil, thyme leaves, rosemary leaves, and dill in a small pan. Heat over medium heat. Cook for about 2-4 minutes, or until the sizzling stops. Remove from the heat and transfer to a large bowl. Mix in the coriander. Set aside.
Season the salmon and tuna with salt and pepper on all sides. Spray a pan with non-stick spray and place over medium-high heat. Saute the salmon and tuna until each side turns golden and the fish is cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Remove the salmon skin. Chop the fish and then toss in the bowl with the oil. Mix until well coated. Add lemon juice. Add additional lemon juice, salt, pepper, and olive oil until it is seasoned to your liking.

Is there a recipe with some rat meat replacement? In the game they were replacing fish with rats meat though it looked like a reptile, to the extent that “the leading world scientists have confirmed — it still has Saltuna in it” The closest to that is crocodile meat which is available.

That would be an interesting option. Alligator meat is something I’ve seen at places (already cooked, not raw) but it is not easily available for most people. I haven’t cooked with it before so I wouldn’t be able to give too much thought on how to approach it.
