The Sims 4: Tikka Masala Pizza

October 21, 2020 By Victoria Rosenthal

The Sims 4 - Tikka Masala Pizza

The Sims has always done a great job of including a large variety of food for your Sims to enjoy. Each generation has built upon a wonderful list of recipes and I just can’t get enough of them. The Sims is one of the games  that really pushed me to start up this adventure in food in video games. The Sims 4 has done a wonderful job of pushing the recipe list and has included many international dishes. Just this month they added several Hispanic dishes in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. This list of food came out the week after I developed this current recipe but expect to see several of them in the future. I can’t wait to see what other wonderful international cuisines the game will add eventually.

This week we are going to be making the Tikka Masala Pizza, which is a fun and delicious fusion recipe. Pizza has been a staple since the first game. You have always been able to quickly order a delicious hot pizza over the phone and not have to worry about cooking up a meal that evening. The Sims 4 took it up a notch with the Discover University DLC by adding very unique pizzas including the tikka masala pizza.

I decided to pull most of my influence for this pizza from a delicious bowl of chicken tikka masala. I’ve combined some elements of the spices used in a chicken tikka masala throughout this entire pizza. If you would like to make this pizza vegetarian, you can easily swap out the chicken for another meat substitute or vegetable, just make sure to adjust the cooking time. Just writing this recipe up has me really craving this pizza again. I guess I know what I’m making this weekend!

Pizza Dough
400 grams bread flour
7 grams vital wheat gluten
5 grams active dry yeast
10 grams sugar
5 grams salt
3 grams ginger powder
2 grams onion powder
3 grams amchur powder
1 ¼ cups (270 g) water
2 tbsp (27 g) olive oil

The day before you plan to make the pizza, prepare the dough. Place the flour, vital wheat gluten, yeast, sugar, salt, ginger powder, onion powder, and amchur powder in the bowl of a stand mixer. In a small bowl, combine the water and olive oil. Pour the liquid into the bowl of the stand mixer.

Place the bowl in the stand mixer and mix on low with a dough hook until all the ingredients come together. When it has formed into a ball, increase the speed of the mixer to medium and knead in the machine for five minutes.

Lightly flour your countertop and place the kneaded dough there. Smooth the dough into a ball. Spray a large bowl with nonstick spray (or rub with olive oil). Place the dough ball into the bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator for 18-24 hours.

The next day, remove the dough from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before you start to prepare your pizza. Punch the dough down and place it onto a lightly floured countertop. Split into two portions and form into balls. Cover with a clean towel and let it rest for a half hour.

Chicken Masala
650 g chicken thighs, cut into bit sized pieces
1 tbsp (20 g) garlic paste
2 tbsp (48 g) ginger paste
¼ cup (100 g) yogurt
juice and zest of 1 lemon
1 tbsp (10 g) garam masala
1 tbsp (6 g) kashmiri chili powder
2 tsp (2 g) turmeric
1 tsp (2 g) onion powder
2 tsp (5 g) ground coriander
1 tsp (3 g) cumin
½ tsp (2 g) amchur powder
1 tsp (4 g) salt
½ tsp (1 g) black pepper

Combine all the ingredients for the chicken masala in a bowl. Cover and marinate for three hours, up to eight hours.

Preheat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Spray with nonstick spray and allow to heat up. Place the chicken and cook until the chicken is cooked through, about five to ten minutes. Make sure to flip the pieces around while cooking to crisp all sides. Set aside until you are ready to assemble the pizza.

Pizza Sauce
2 tbsp (23 g) olive oil
2 anchovies
5 garlic cloves, minced
28 oz whole san marzano tomatoes
2 tbsp (4 g) oregano
pinch of red pepper flakes
1 tsp (2 g) garam masala
1 tsp (3 g) cumin
½ tsp (1 g) coriander
½ tsp (1 g) cardamom
1 tsp (3 g) onion powder
1 tsp (5 g) sugar
1 cinnamon stick
salt
pepper

Heat a saucepan with olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the anchovies and lightly mash it into small pieces. Add the garlic and cook until the garlic is golden brown, about two to three minutes. Add the san marzano tomatoes and stir together well.

Add the oregano, red pepper flakes, garam masala, cumin, coriander, cardamom, onion powder, sugar, and cinnamon stick. Stir in well while lightly mashing the whole tomatoes. Reduce the heat to low/ medium-low and allow the sauce to simmer for about 45 minutes, or until thickened. Make sure to stir often and mash the tomatoes fully by the time it is done cooking. Taste and season with salt and pepper to your liking.

Assembly
pizza dough, from above
pizza sauce, from above
chicken masala, from above
½ red onion, sliced
shredded mozzarella cheese
bunch of cilantro

Preheat your oven to 475℉. Lightly flour your work area and take one of the dough portions. Pound the dough into a disk shape. Continue to stretch the dough into a disk shape. Stretch the dough until it is about the size of a large pizza. Prepare a round baking tray by spraying with nonstick spray and sprinkling with cornmeal. Place the dough onto the tray. Repeat with the other portion.

Spread the pizza sauce on top of each dough. Add as much as you like, this is your pizza after all! Add a generous layer of mozzarella cheese. Top with chicken masala, red onion, and a little more mozzarella cheese.

Place the pizza in the oven and bake for ten minutes. Turn the pizza and then bake for another ten minutes or until the crust has browned nicely. After the pizza has cooked, remove it from the oven and allow it to rest for at least five minutes.
