Last year, Jeff and I spent a few days playing Spiritfarer and we loved it. This game was such a delight to play together. The first day we played, we found ourselves just chilling on the couch, gathering a bunch of materials, making all the recipes, and getting hit by all the feels. We basically lost that whole Saturday to this game. Atul is one of the early spirits that join you on this journey. I adored his character the moment he joined.
I will not go into too much detail about this character but right away he was always very excited about the different foods we would offer him. His excitement for cooking and food is basically on par with mine. I highly recommend giving this game a try. The story is extremely well told and the themes can be heavy (content warnings for the game would include: death and loss of loved ones).Text
One of the major mechanics in the game is cooking meals for the spirits traveling with you. Each of the spirits have food likes, dislikes, and a specific favorite dish. As we were playing we went through and made sure to unlock every recipe in the game. The moment we figured out the recipe for peach cobbler, Jeff looked at me and said I had to make this. That brings us to this blog post. I love cobblers! I find them to be one of the easier baking recipes you could start with in the kitchen. All you need to do is combine the filling and warm it up over the stove, mix the topping together, put all of this in a baking dish, and bake. Super easy and you’ll have a delicious dessert for several days.
Filling
6 peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
⅔ cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
½ tsp kosher salt
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp cornstarch
Topping
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup sugar
½ tsp cardamom
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp kosher salt
6 tbsp unsalted butter, cooled and cubed
½ cup milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan. Place over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved and the peaches have released their juices, about 8 minutes. Transfer to a deep baking dish.
Prepare the topping by combining the flour, sugar, cardamom, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt in another medium bowl. Add the cubed butter. Using your hands, combine the butter with the dry ingredients until it resembles a coarse meal. Add the milk and mix until combined.
Take the mixture and place on top of the baking dish with the peaches. Try to make this layer an even thickness. The dish should not be completely covered.
Place in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown. Scoop a portion onto a plate and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
