Video games are a way to escape reality and adventure in a fantasy world. These worlds can send you to new places on Earth, different universes, or alternate timelines based on real world events. In these alternate timelines, developers take the time to stretch the imagination by adding something like new technology that causes a sharp change from the history we know. Wolfenstein II is a game that does exactly that. It is set in a scary alternate universe where the nazis won World War II because of the technology they discovered. In Wolfenstein II, William Blazkowicz and the Resistance continues his journey to take down the nazi powers and bring freedom back to the United States.
During one of Blazkowicz’s missions, he finds himself with a small nuclear warhead hidden in an extinguisher sitting at the counter of Papa Joe’s All-American Dinner. Kommandant Gruber comes in for one of his favorite American treats, a strawberry milkshake. Of course, Gruber suggest to the owner to consider making the menu a bit more German inspired. He is only a fan of the strawberry shake so everything else can go. The milkshake is the one thing he adores about America, but it ends up being the last meal he will ever enjoy.
This milkshake has been on my to-do list for a bit now. I wanted to take an ordinary strawberry milkshake and create an alternate version of it. Balsamic vinegar compliments strawberries really well. I decided to go ahead and combine those flavors into this milkshakes. The end result is a sweet yet tangy milkshake. This recipe is very simple and delicious. It is perfect for any season.
Ingredients:
700 g vanilla ice cream
2 cups (340 g) strawberries, tops removed and chopped
1 (100 g) banana
¼ cup heavy cream
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp salt
2 ½ tbsp brown sugar
Combine the balsamic vinegar, salt, and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Heat until the sugar dissolves. Set aside and allow to fully cool.
In a blender, add the strawberries and banana and blend until smooth. Add the balsamic sugar mixture and blend. Add the ice cream and heavy cream. If the milkshake is too thick, add additional heavy cream. Serve in a cup and top with whipped cream.
