Overwatch League: Los Angeles Gladiators Popsicles

Los Angeles Gladiators Popsicles

Los Angeles Gladiators Logo

When the Overwatch League season started, the Los Angeles Gladiators were not a team I paid much attention to. I didn’t like their team colors and I just wasn’t inspired by their team play. Since stage 2 and the introduction of Fissure on the team, I have fallen in love with them. Fissure’s aggressive main tank play style and ability to lead the team has really made a huge difference. Once he joined, it felt like they were working as a strong team. Bischu has also improved greatly since the start of the season. This tank combo coordinates extremely well together and are my favorite tank combo in the league. I can’t wait to watch the rest of their games this season and I have my fingers crossed for this team making it into the season playoffs.

I am typically not a huge fan of grape flavored anything. When concepting these popsicles, I was a little worried that I wasn’t going to be a huge fan of them. After a few test runs, I found a balance that really highlights the Los Angeles Gladiators’ color scheme while making them a grape flavor I enjoyed. I found that the vanilla layer in the center helps compliment the grape flavor. My mother-in-law loves grape flavored desserts and was really excited when I let her try these. I got these popsicles and I’m ready to shield up as the Gladiators make their way towards the playoffs!

Ingredients:
Grape Layer
1 cup plain greek yogurt
¼ cup grape jam
2 tbsp honey
8 drops of pink food dye
3 drops of blue food dye
2 drops of red food dye

Vanilla Layer
¾ cup plain greek yogurt
½ vanilla bean, seeds scraped
⅓ cup heavy cream
2 tbsp honey
2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine the greek yogurt, grape jam, and honey. Blend until completely smooth and well combined. Add the food dye and mix until the purple resembles the Gladiators purple.

Transfer about half of the mixture into your popsicle molds and fill each 1/3rd of the way up. Place in the freeze (no sticks) for 30 minutes. Place the remaining filling in the refrigerator while you work on the second layer.

For the second layer, combine the greek yogurt, vanilla bean, and vanilla extract. Blend until completely smooth and well combined.

Pour the vanilla mixture into the popsicle molds on top of the grape layer. Fill each about 2/3rds of the way up. Place in the freezer (no sticks) for 30 minutes.

Add the remaining grape filling on top of the vanilla layer. Place the popsicle sticks in, cover, and place in the freezer overnight and let freeze for at least 24 hours.

Remove the popsicles from the mold when you are ready to enjoy these.
